INFRARED ART FOR YOUR HOME GALLERY

In the realm of photography, there are various techniques and styles that capture the imagination and push the boundaries of creativity. One such technique that has been gaining popularity in recent years is infrared photography. This captivating art form allows photographers to see the world through a different lens, revealing unseen details and ethereal landscapes. In this article, we will delve deep into the world of infrared photography, unraveling its mysteries and exploring its unique characteristics.

The first infrared photograph was taken in 1910 by a photographer named Robert Wood. Wood used a new type of film and long exposures to capture this unique style of photography. During World War I, the military used infrared photography to see through toxic gas and gather intelligence. Kodak began producing infrared emulsion in the 1930s, making infrared film available for commercial use. In the 1960s, 35mm false color film became popular, and was even featured on album covers for musicians like Jimi Hendrix. Today, thanks to digital cameras and filters, anyone can experiment with infrared photography.

How Do You Take Infrared Photographs?

Infrared Photography can be achieved by using filters on the lens or on the camera sensor itself. Randy Bott Photography chose to have a Full Spectrum Conversion from Lifepixel.com, which allows for various filters to be used depending on the desired look. With full spectrum, different types of infrared, UV, and visible light can be shot. Randy often takes the same shot with different filters to achieve different looks. The filters used the most are the 470 nm Hypercolor, 590 nm super color, and 720 nm standard IR filters. In shooting infrared photos with a digital camera, custom white balance must be set for each filter. For lower numbers like 470 and 590, a grey card is recommended. For the 665 nm filter, either green foliage or a grey card can be used. And for the 720 or 830 nm filters, green foliage works best. Once the white balance is set, the infrared converted camera works just like a normal camera, but with a different wavelength.

Exploring the Artistic Possibilities: Unleashing Creativity in a New Light

Infrared photography opens up a realm of artistic possibilities, allowing photographers to capture scenes in a way that is both unique and enchanting. The absence of visible light and the emphasis on infrared radiation give rise to distinctive characteristics, such as the surreal glow of foliage, the darkening of skies, and the transformation of human skin tones. These effects create an otherworldly ambiance that evokes emotion and captures the viewer's imagination.

As technology advances and new possibilities emerge, the future of infrared photography looks promising. Innovations in sensor technology, post-processing algorithms, and artistic vision continue to push the boundaries of this captivating art form. With each passing day, more photographers are discovering the allure of infrared photography and finding ways to incorporate it into their creative endeavors.

Why Purchase Infrared Photographs For Your Home or Office Gallery?

There are many reasons why infrared photography is a great choice for your home or office art gallery. Firstly, it is unique and different from the standard photographs that most people have. This makes it an interesting conversation starter and adds an element of intrigue to your space. Additionally, infrared photography can be incredibly colorful or strikingly black and white, providing a range of visual options.

When purchasing limited edition fine art prints, you want something that is truly unique and special. Infrared photography offers just that, as there are only a limited number of prints available. This means that you can own a piece of artwork that is truly one-of-a-kind.

However, not all infrared images are created equal. It is important to remember that the same basic photography principles still apply. Composition, foreground, midground, background, leading lines, and other techniques are just as important in infrared photography as they are in traditional photography. As a result, investing in limited edition infrared photographs from a skilled photographer ensures that you are getting a high-quality piece of art that is both unique and visually striking.

Something Different

Infrared photography is a unique and enjoyable art form that not many photographers pursue. It allows for the capture of unique images that can be taken in the middle of the day. The midday sun is ideal for shooting infrared photography, but sunrise and sunset can work as well. Using different filters, such as the 830 nm deep black and white or the 590 nm super color, can produce a wide range of effects.

During the spring season when flowers are in bloom, infrared photography of flowers can be particularly stunning. The flowers can be made to appear bright white while the foliage can be made any other color or even change the color of the flower itself. Walking around the neighborhood can provide plenty of opportunities to capture beautiful infrared flower photographs. Consider adding an infrared flower photograph to your home art collection if you enjoy floral wall art.
