Cape Disappointment Lighthouse is on the southern tip to Washington where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The waves can be quite large at times especially in the winter. I wanted a new place to shoot and saw a video from Nick Page Photography when he was there. I packed my stuff and headed down for a night to catch the sunset and sunrise. It is about a 3 hour drive from Seattle through the beautiful Willapa area. Upon arriving, the sky was grey and the rain was off and on. Luckily, the ranger let me in with paying the fee since I forgot my Discovery Pass at home. As time went on and lots of photos were taken, the light was just getting worse. I packed up my stuff just before sunset and headed to the end of the Jetty road to see what was there. I saw a small break in clouds, turned around and headed back to where I was. Got all set up and then waited. The sun eventually broke through the clouds and the sky lit up with amazing yellows, pinks, oranges, and an array of other colors. About 10 minutes later the color was gone but I got my shots. Those ten minutes made the drive wroth the effort. Happy with my shots, I packed up and went to the hotel.
The next morning I got up for sunrise, back to the lighthouse and waited for the color. A little color eventually came through but nothing great. Packed up again, went to the Cottage Bakery for breakfast and goodies then headed home. In all it was a good shoot with nice sunset colors.
